![]() ![]() The biggest and most used browser, Google Chrome, is an example of this. Today’s browsers are frequently used by advertising businesses as data harvesting tools. Do you want a secure browser that guards the confidentiality of your data? However, you might be surprised to realise how much of your data is made available to the public. ![]() This guide includes the most recent recommendations for 2022 since we have been assessing, testing, and ranking browsers for the previous six years. It's my preferred browser, I post about it often on Reddit, others have asked what it's about, therefore I thought I'd provide some information. To be safe online and shield your data from prying eyes, you must use a secure browser that protects your privacy. ![]() My goal isn't to change minds or to say that PM is better than other browsers. I know that others will disagree and not be inclined to use Pale Moon and I get that. So, there are some of my thoughts on using Pale Moon. It's too bad, but something that I'm willing to live with, though I understand why other might not. For example, I use Reddit Enhancement Suite but I have to stay at version 4.5.0.2 because the developers have thus far refused to provide support for Pale Moon. While most FF extensions work just fine with PM, some may require you to use an older extension version, because some extension developers aren't inclined to support Pale Moon. PM does have its own Add-ons site with many extensions and themes that have been modified for compatibility with PM. Also, some FF extensions (primarily those that require Australis UI) are not compatible with PM. For example, if you need specialized accessibility features or integration of Windows' parental controls, then Pale Moon may not be a good browser choice for you. Pale Moon also has some nice utilities like a user profile backup and Advanced Options extension.Īre there downsides to using Pale Moon? Sure, just like there are with any browsers. Please read this article for more information: PM provides a potentially more secure or private browsing environment than FF due to the amount of data that is collected by Mozilla. I also like that PM uses Sync version 1.1, which means that users can continue to use their personal sync servers, if they so wish (of course, PM provides sync services as well, the choice is yours). While at the core this may be true, PM is under constant development, has a full set of security patches and actually has its own development road map that you can read about here: As you can see, PM is certainly not "outdated", rather it is own path fully independent from FF's road map.īecause the PM developer has decided not to incorporate the FF "Australis" UI, users have a fully customizable UI, something that I prefer. One thing that you'll often hear is that PM is based on "old" version of FF. I found out about Pale Moon 64 bit, gave it a try on my Windows system and never looked back.Īll of this was long before Firefox had announced or released their new UI, so my changeover had nothing to do with that. Initially it was because I was looking for a 64 bit version of FireFox and Waterfox had become unstable and they were having trouble compiling. I was a long time Firefox user but about a year ago I switched to Pale Moon. I'm active on the PM forums and I have contributed to the project, but I have no other stake in Pale Moon.) Here's my take on it: (FYI: I'm not affiliated with Pale Moon or Moonchild Productions. I often post news about Pale Moon browser updates on Reddit and sometimes others will ask what Pale Moon is about or why some prefer it to Firefox or other browsers. ![]()
