![]() ![]() Will get you around 70kmh on 3s and 45kmh on 2s and heat will never be an issue. When running 26/83 in the stampy the motor could fry an egg after 5mins.įor a rustler I'd recommend 90/23. I can get 45mins out of a 4000mah 3s Lipo and the motor is warm at most even in the middle of summer using 21/90. Hence, my suggestion is to gear it for bashing not speed runs. What they fail to tell you is that you will kill the esc and motor if you use this gearing for a 45min bashing session. The Traxxas gearing chart is a marketing tool to sell the product.Īs such they tell you all about the 100kmh plus speed when using certain pinion / Spur combinations. Top speed is about 70kmh on 3s Lipos and just under 50kmh on 2s. I have a stampede with a MMP / Team Epic Duo2 (Sensored)3570kv motor and run 90/21 gearing. I am almost settled on a 28/83 combo which according to the Traxxas gearing chart is the absolute limit for NiMH batterys and the rustler, im open to change I just wanted to make sure before next month so if anyone has a suggestion :thumb: Stock gearing on the Xl5 is 23T pinion and 90T Spur = 10.63FGR The plan is for the youngest to run 8.4V 7 cell NiMH and the eldest to run a 3s 20C lipo so gearing is going to be key Stock gearing for the Vxl system is as followsħcell 4000+ NiMH battery - 28T pinion with 83T spur = 8.05 Final gear ratioģS 4000 mAh Lipo - 31T pinion with 76T spur = 6.66 FGR The xl5 is brushless ready from new so it already came with the most of the upgraded parts with the exception of ball bearings front and rear (Ordered) Apart from that its gearing im looking at. I purchased a genuine VXL velineon system (Right time, Right price) which arrived last week and will stay in the box untill Xmas but im left wondering if there is anything i've forgotten. Rustler manual will show you that or.I bought an xl5 for my boys at the start of the year and its time to upgrade it to brushless :thumb: everytime we get out for a bash they seem to spend more time driving either my vorza or our/my hyper. Too tight of mesh will put a lot of strain on motor/components also. You will probably be able to gear up a bit.that's where an IR thermometer comes in handy along with assortment of pinion gears.ĭon't buy aluminum pinion gears, and remember to get your mesh set correctly. For a 3900Kv motor, and not buying any pinions right away, I'd go with the 16/86 combo (pinion/spur) when running on 2S. You can't expect the motor to last long if used continuously. I am running off road. That optional gearing that's included with the Rustler is meant for doing speed runs. I am new, so going to start with cheap upgrades, until i catch the right way to get into better branded parts. Was the kv problem? or it's the cheap esc and motor, it only cost around $30 per combo. Stock xl5 only provide me 21mph, after brushless it goes 28mph enough for me, just the motor temp quite hot. i am using 2s and 3s, same temp result with the motor after 5-6 minutes speed up. any suggestion? i had gone back the gearing at 16/90, run for few minutes also the motor temp up too. but the motor goes hot, cant stay my finger on the motor for 6sec. it's damn fast when i use on optional gearing. Recently i had a xl5 rustler, and i bought and upgrade it with the ocday 60a brushless esc with 3900kv 3650 motor. ![]()
